READING

       We are on our final 3 stories in the reading program!  They are all non-fiction stories:  Simple Machines by Allan Fowler; Alexander Graham Bell by Lola M. Schaefer and Ben Franklin and His First Kite by Stephen Krensky. 

Spelling tests will be on the next 3 Fridays.

The class is working really hard on their spelling tests!!!  Way to go first graders!

       I am using "Daily 5" as a system for working with readers in small groups during the week.  We worked hard on building stamina and learning how to (1) read to self; (2) read to someone; (3) do word work and (4) work on writing.  This allows me to (5) work with small groups of children to teach reading.  Bravo to these hard working youngsters!
