Fun Fluency with Poetry!
Poetry is a fun and motivating way to practice fluency and use of expression in oral reading. Since October, children in Mrs. Henry's class have been assigned a poem each week and have practiced it nightly for presentation the following week. Through their weekly practice of poems and daily practice in class of passage reading in the Wilson Reading Program, they have learned that rereading plays an important role in fluency and prosidy (expression). With this understanding, children become more accountable for their own success in reading. Children who can perform a flawless poetry reading (see poetry rubric here) and present the most signatures (signifies the number of rereadings made throughout the week), win a free item from our classroom store! Don't forget to support your child and listen to him/her whenever you can!
