       Our first writing assignment of the year is a character description.  Students created a pirate character and are now describing him or her.  Students are writing indented topic sentences, detail sentences, and are highlighting adjectives.

       The next writing assignment students in third grade have is to write a fantasy story with their pirate as the main character.  These stories follow the writing diamond format.  They will eventually turn these stories into books that they will share with classmates, kindergarten book buddies, and families!

The next writing project is an animal research report.  Students are working to write three indented and focused paragraphs.  The first paragraph is an animal description, the second is about what the animal eats, and the third focuses on an adaptation the animal has.

Students planned a drafted a letter.  These letters contained a long date with a comma, a greeting with a comma, an indented body, a closing with a comma, and a signature.
