Hampton and Scotland School Readiness Council
In 2006 the town of Scotland was awarded its first School Readiness Grant through the Connecticut State Department of Education. Our town receives $107,000 annually to provide quality services for children aged birth to kindergarten. The School Readiness grant provides parent education and enrichment activities through the town library, as well as a preschool program at Scotland Elementary School, which is available during the school year on a sliding scale fee basis. The towns of Hampton and Scotland have a joint School Readiness Council that oversees the implementation of the grant in the two towns. Members of the council are appointed jointly by the First Selectman and the Superintendent of Schools. If you are interested in becoming a part of the council, please contact us.
The Hampton and Scotland School Readiness Council conducts annual surveys in order to maintain current information regarding needs of families as well as the need for early childhood education in the towns of Hampton and Scotland. The council is currently working with parents, community members and area agencies and organizations on a community plan. We have identified the following three areas as priorities:
We are working in committees to identify our assets and needs in each of these areas and develop action plans to make improvements. We value your input and invite anyone to join us in this rewarding endeavor.
