Usually when we think of summer school, fear and dread come to mind, but here at Scotland School, summer school is almost like going to camp. Yes, we have the academics in the morning, but even that is broken up for some of the kids by Mrs. Yaworski with a fun hands on project. At 12:00 some of the kids head home and others head to the library for 2 1/2 hours filled with activities. We begin with lunch and then kids are allowed to become artists, or encouraged to use their imaginations, or they might just enjoy some quiet time reading in Mrs. Smith's Reading Corner. Then it's time to head down to the gym where kids can ride on scooters, swing or climb on the ropes, create their own dance routines, play some badminton, basketball or indoor soccer, or play with games on the stage. After 45 minutes or so we head outside and get to play on the playscape or even play in our new sandbox located outside the primary wing. If it's too hot to play outside we go back to the air-conditioned library and do a project, or we split up and kids can use the computer lab for some free time or remain in the library to play.
Other staff are also busy at the school. Some of the teachers are meeting to set up the PBIS program so it is in place for the start of the school year and Mr.Gadreau and Mr. LaFontaine are busy getting the school ready for the first day of school.
