MARCH, 2010

On February 25th, Scotland Elementary School held its annual Science Fair in the gym.  Over 40 exhibits were on display from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm for all to see.  Every participant received a Science Fair ribbon, and the top three winners in each grade or class won gold, silver, or bronze medals.  This year's fair was held on the same night as Parent/Teacher Conferences to make it more convenient for people to attend.

On March 2nd, we had our annual celebration of Dr. Seuss Day to honor Theodore Seuss Geisel's Birthday. He was born March 2, 1904 and died September, 1991.  He was an American writer and cartoonist most widely known for his children's books written under the pen name of  Dr. Seuss.  He published over 60 children's books, which were often characterized by imaginative characters, rhyme, and frequent use of trisyllabic meter. His most celebrated books include the bestselling Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. Numerous adaptations of his work have been created, including eleven television specials, three feature films, and a Broadway musical. ( wikipedia) After a morning of CMT testing, we enjoyed a lunch of green eggs and ham.  Strawberry shortcake was served for dessert by our lunch staff and Mrs. Golden of the PTO.  After lunch and recess, children went back to their classrooms where parents and staff volunteered to read to each class throughout the afternoon. This was a fun and enjoyable way to honor a favorite author.
